This is the most complex song on the album — though it doesn’t sound like it based on how it starts. It begins quietly, like life must have been like for Moses tending sheep right before he sees the burning bush (Exodus 3). As the encounters with God that Moses has are recounted, the song slowly builds into something that aims to reflect the sheer awe of standing before the glory of God, especially on Mt. Sinai where where Moses is hidden in the cleft of the rock as God's glory passes by (Exodus 33–34). .
At that point, the refrain bursts with the kind of uncontainable reverence that scene calls for — “Holy, holy, the Lord on high / Fire and glory fill the sky!”
But this song isn’t just about what Moses saw. It’s about what wesee now.
“Though Moses saw Your glory ablaze,
Your grace shines brighter in these last days.”

The bridge shifts to the New Testament — pointing toHebrews 1:1–3, where Jesus is called the radiance of God's glory, and to the Sacrament, where we now taste and see the Lord’s goodness (Psalm 34:8). We don’t stand on Sinai. We kneel at the altar — and yet the glory is no less.
In fact, it’s greater, because we have the full revelation of God’s plan of salvation all spelled out and clearly chronicled for us by multiple eyewitnesses.

A note on the music

The song starts as aquiet acoustic guitar and piano balladand slowly builds with voices and instruments until it crescendos into afull belted-out refrain — the musical equivalent of the smoke, thunder, and fire that surrounded Moses. But even with all that, it ends where it began: in awe, in reverence, and in intimacy.
My wife Angela says it’s her favorite track on the album. (Though, wisely, she tells me they’re all her favorite. Good answer, honey! 😀)
